Jeanne Foo is a former teacher of Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary), teaching upper secondary and GEP Math. She was a PSC scholar who holds a BSc degree major in Mathematics from NUS and Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Institute of Education, Singapore.
Through her many years of teaching experience, she has discovered that there are two main reasons for students’ lack of motivation in studying Math and the inability to achieve good results – poor understanding of concepts and an over-commitment to non-academic activities. Lack of practice is usually a student’s main obstacle to obtaining good grades in Math. She believes that everyone can excel at Math and excellent grades are not difficult to achieve. Students need perseverance, proper guidance and sufficient practice to succeed.
She adopts a holistic approach in her teaching and believes students would become lifelong learners and succeed in school and life if they acquire positive attitudes and right perceptions towards learning would. One of her teaching strategies is to frequently pose questions to students and this ensures that all students understand the required mathematical concepts well.
Jeanne conducts classes in small groups of up to 10 students for Express Sec 1 – Sec 4 Elementary and Additional Math. She also conducts mixed level groups for JC, IP and Primary students with a maximum class size of 4. For such mixed level groups, Jeanne will provide individualized coaching to students according to students’ school syllabus.
